Car rental in Antalya

Pick up a rental car at Antalya Airport (AYT), the most popular starting point for the coast road towards Kemer, Side and Alanya, and compare offers from several companies in one list. Prices are shown with compulsory traffic insurance, collision cover with an excess and taxes included; fuel and extras are not. A car makes most sense if you want to combine the old town, the Düden waterfalls and several beaches on your own schedule.

Pick-up points

Antalya Airport (AYT)

On the east side of the city, about 13 km from the centre and close to Lara. Belek, Side and Alanya lie further east along the same road; Kemer is on the other side of the city, to the south-west.

City and resort pick-up points

Some suppliers also hand over cars in the city and in the resort towns. Which points are open depends on the supplier and your dates: type Lara, Konyaaltı, Belek, Side or Alanya into the pick-up box and the results show the points offered for those dates. Handy if you only want a car for a few days of your holiday.

Opening hours and available points vary by supplier; the search lists the points offered for the dates you choose.

Requirements for foreign and Gulf drivers in Antalya

What the rental desk will ask for at hand-over. Each offer shows its own conditions before you book; the points below are the general framework.

RequirementDetails
PassportBring your original passport to the hand-over. The name on the booking, the licence and the credit card should match the name in the passport. Turkish citizens rent with their national ID number instead.
Licence and experienceA valid licence held for 1-3 years depending on the car: one year is usually enough for economy cars, while upper-class and luxury cars ask for two to three. The exact rule is listed in the conditions of each offer.
Foreign licence and international permitVisitors may drive in Turkey on a valid foreign licence for up to six months from their date of entry. If your licence is not in the Latin alphabet, carry an international driving permit (IDP) with it. Many Gulf licences already show the details in English as well as Arabic, but some suppliers and traffic checks may still ask for an IDP, so getting one at home before you travel is a simple precaution.
Driver ageUsually 21 for economy and midsize, 25-27 for upper class and luxury. Enter the driver's age in the search and the results list only the cars you can rent.
Credit card in the driver's nameThe deposit is blocked on a credit card in the main driver's own name. Some offers allow renting with a debit card, or without a deposit, as a paid extra; where that is possible it appears among the offer's extras.
Deposit amountThe amount varies by car class and supplier and is shown on every car before you book. It is blocked at hand-over and released after the car is returned; depending on your bank, the block can take several working days to clear.
Additional driverAnyone else who will drive must be added to the booking as an additional driver, and the same age and licence rules apply to them.

Driving in Antalya

The D400 coast road

The D400 links Kemer, the city, Belek, Side and Alanya. Most of it is a fast dual carriageway, but in July and August allow extra time through town centres and around the resort junctions.

Speed limits and checks

On the dual-carriageway sections the limit is 110 km/h, dropping to 50 km/h through towns and lower where signposted near junctions. Speed checks are frequent along the coast; traffic fines are not included in the rental price and are passed on to the driver afterwards.

Parking in Kaleiçi

The old town's streets are narrow and largely closed to traffic; leave the car in the car parks around the old walls and walk in.

Beat the beach crowds

In July and August the parking near the beaches in Side, Alanya and Kemer fills up by mid-morning. Set off early or use the paid car parks, and leave nothing valuable in sight in the car.

Mountain roads

Roads into the Taurus Mountains and west towards Kaş are winding; drive them in daylight and keep the tank topped up.

Summer heat

Summer middays often reach the mid-30s °C; choose a car with good air conditioning and never leave children or valuables in a parked car.

Routes and driving distances from Antalya

Distances and times are approximate, one way and in normal traffic; allow more on summer weekends and in rain or snow.

Antalya car rental: FAQ

The questions we are asked most before a rental.

The airport is about 13 km east of the city centre. From the airport, Belek is about 30 km, Side about 65 km and Alanya about 125 km east along the coast, while Kemer lies on the far side of the city, about 55 km away.
For a resort-only stay, an airport transfer is simpler. A car is worth it if you want to combine Kaleiçi, the Düden waterfalls, Side or Kemer on your own timetable.
Compulsory traffic insurance, collision cover with an excess, theft protection and taxes are included. Fuel (full to full), tolls, traffic fines, parking, an additional driver, child seats and zero-excess cover are not.
A valid licence held for 1-3 years depending on the car, your passport, and a credit card in the driver's name for the deposit. Carry an international driving permit if your licence is not in the Latin alphabet. The usual minimum age is 21 for economy and midsize cars.
Yes. Visitors may drive on a valid foreign licence for up to six months from entering Turkey, and Gulf licences are generally accepted when they meet the experience rule for the car class. If your licence shows your details only in Arabic, carry an international driving permit with it; even with a bilingual licence, having an IDP is a sensible precaution.
There is no single figure: it depends on the car class and the supplier, and the amount is shown on each car before you book. It is blocked on a credit card in the main driver's name at hand-over and released after the car is returned, which can take several working days depending on your bank.
Some suppliers also hand over cars in the city and the resort towns; it depends on the supplier and your dates. Type the area's name into the pick-up box and the results show only the points on offer.
Yes, one-way rentals are available and a one-way fee applies. Choose the drop-off point in the search to see the price for that route.
